Instagram has become the most important and most-used social network for US teens.Among US female internet users, 42% reported being on Pinterest in Pew's late-2014 survey, compared to only 13% of men. Meanwhile, Facebook reached 1.8 billion monthly users in November, up more than 300 million users since Q3 2015, and most recently reported nearly 1.2 billion DAUs. The latter has hovered above 300 million MAUs since Q1 2015. Snapchat reports 150 million daily active users (DAUs), and Twitter had 317 million MAUs in Q3 2016. In September, Instagram announced that over 500,000 advertisers were on its platform within a year of debuting its ads API – this was up from 200,000 in February. Advertisers will relish the opportunity to reach Instagram’s massive audience, using the platform’s (and by association Facebook’s) campaign targeting and delivery tools. It indicates that Instagram is poised for sustained growth, in many ways following in the footsteps of its parent Facebook, also which continues to welcome new users at similar breakneck speed. It’s a very strong sign that Instagram’s growth is accelerating as more users join the platform. This bodes well for Instagram’s future.Positive user growth is critical for maintaining investor and advertiser interest in a platform. Since June, user growth has accelerated by 33% as the platform has welcomed an additional 100 million users in just six months. Between 2014 and June 2016, Instagram's user base grew at a rate of 100 million new users every 9 months.
